One of the most powerful ways we can influence others is by modeling Christ-like character through our words and actions. Ephesians 5:1-2 encourages us to follow God's example and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and sacrificed Himself for us. “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Reflecting God's Love:
Modeling Christ-like character begins with reflecting God's unconditional love to those around us. Sacrificial love that Christ demonstrated exemplifies a picture that speaks volumes and touches hearts. Children are especially observant learning valuable life lessons by experiencing genuine love and care from their parents.
Practicing Forgiveness:
Forgiveness is a core virtue demonstrated by Jesus upon His crucifixion. When we exemplify forgiveness in our relationships, we teach the power of reconciliation and healing. Our ability to forgive others demonstrates the impact of God's grace and mercy, showing others that mistakes and conflicts can be overcome through love and understanding. Putting forgiveness into tangible action liberates people and shows humility.
Showing Compassion:
Compassion lies at the core of Christ. When we show compassion to those in need, we reveal the heart of God for the broken and hurting. Micah 6:8 states, “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness,[a] and to walk humbly with your God?” Through our acts of kindness and empathy the importance of caring for others and living with a sense of compassion is seen and taught.
Practicing Honesty and Integrity:
Honesty and integrity are foundational attributes of Christ-like character. When you value honesty and authenticity, it creates a ripple in the lives of those around you for the glory of Christ. Trust and respect flourish and lives are changed by the Gospel.
